From what I heard Gerald Youngblood, K5SDR, CEO of Flex Radio at the Flex
dinner at Dayton Saturday evening, the part is the chassis/cabinet a complex
extruded aluminum product. He said that the supplier would provide more if
Flex would order 1000. So you can see that it would not be logical to
continue production of the 5000 under that circumstance.
As a 5000 owner I am sorry to see this happen, but understand it. Gerald
said that they have parts to continue servicing the 5000 and would continue
with software updates. After all, they still produce the 1500 and 3000 which
use Power SDR.
Times change. After all, they don't produce the 1000 anymore but continue to
support it.
I have found Flex Radio very good on service and help, even on products they
don't sell, like VAC.
So, I'm sticking with them.

OK -
Now that the 5000 has met it's demise, due to the unavailability of
"parts" - my question is, if, in the future, my 5000 needs that elusive
"part" that is unavailable, where does that leave me?
Also, will the accessories, i.e. ATU, 2nd receiver, etc, remain available
for the foreseable future, or shoud we purchase them now before they also
become unavailable?
Not trying to be a S/A, just wondering.
