Burt,
I believe that the more basic a technology, the longer it will work. I have
a 100 year old shovel that still works very effectively.
Emerging technology tends to short lived. Do you still use the PC you
purchased 15 years ago? That PC was very expensive for what you got compared
to what the same money will buy today. If the relatively short life span of
emerging technology is unacceptable to you, you should avoid it. Eventually
FlexRadio type SDR rigs will be the norm and the price will come down
accordingly. Look at things like microwave ovens, VCRs, and DVD players. The
first models on the market were expensive and big clunky devices.

Personally, my DX-100 resides only a few feet away from my Flex-5000A. I
plan on using both for a long time to come.

73,
Bill - W1LLY

In your opinion when will the 5000 be gone effectively from the scene?
My DX-40 still useful after 60 years as is my Viking Ranger
