Oh!  So the entire airport -- including its runways and taxiways -- would
be one huge 3D model?

One thing that would be cool about this is the ability to handle truly
curved taxiways (e.g. the roughly circular taxiway around the GA parking
at KPAO in the default area -- see
http://static.flickr.com/14/19525472_cf4cbbd786_m.jpg ), which is a big
limitation of the apt.dat format.  OTOH, it might make doing small tweaks
(e.g. changing a taxiway from asphalt to concrete) challenging for a
contributor -- having to load in the whole model (assuming I'm following
you correctly).
