You allways have the chance to fix a problem! But the discussion wasn't
about end users fixing the problem, it was about them having the
problem. The usual end users can't fix the problems as he isn't a
programmer and thus lacks the knowledge.

Why aren't those that have the problem ask for that kind of assistance?
This isn't a I-pay-you-work situation. It's a
I-use-your-work-for-free-and-want-to-help-you-make-it-even-better
situation. All developers use their spare time to work on FlightGear.

I requested the people to send their command line that they use to start
FlightGear. So that I can try it (having an ATI). So far *none* end user
answered directly and one was sent to a different toppic! How can the
developers work with that backing of the end users?!?

If you don't know how to do the request of an developer, just ask!

Noone says: "you didn't contribute, so you don't deserved to get help".
Only repeated requests to the same topic might cause a bit of irritation.

"fix it yourself" is the answer if people insist that the developers
*must* fix their problem. That they have a right to it. That's wrong!
You don't like the software - don't use it.

"upgrade your hardware" is sometimes necessary.

Not listed: "update your drivers". Also sometimes necessary. I remember
the OpenAL issue (IIRC with 0.9.6) that was caused with too old sound
card drivers.

It is an art to write helpfull bug reports.
But it's also an art to write complex programms. And an even higher art
to debug problems that don't occur on the own hardware.

So, work together and don't try to force the developers to fix your
problem! This only causes a bad mood and doesn't speed up the debugging.

CU,
Christian
