That's nonsense. You do then not simulate a pilot sitting in
the cockpit steering the aircraft, but you simulate one being
outside steering the aircraft. Which is not only physically
possible, but actually done in the real world.

And the main reason for using a simulator is to be able to do
things that you can't do in real life -- mostly because it's
just to expensive or too dangerous.

One could also say that if you are sitting behind your desk
and a computer monitor in underpants with a cup of coffee next
to the keyboard, then you aren't really simulating flying an
aircraft.

That being said: I enjoy both cockpit view and outside views,
and I don't feel one bit like a gamer and less worthy than the
"serious" pilots.  :-P
