I agree with you guys--the logo being a link to home is a standard convention/pattern that all websites should follow.

Yes, that's what I was thinking: standard convention. I've been re- reading "Don't Make Me Think" recently, including the part about how that practice has become a convention, and so people expect it. I agree that it seems unnecessary when there is a Home link right under it, but some people will still click on the logo, expecting it to take them home, and since there's no harm in making it a link...
