Not the answer you were probably looking for (and notwithstanding the
academic search for a solution) but I wonder if you should rethink
your data entry expectations?

I'm assuming you have a reasonably length list of possible breeds. Any
time I've come across a requirement to enter values from a long list,
I (and clients) have been quite happy with using FM9 auto-completion,
combined with drop-down lists if required. A moments training on how
to use these effectively might circumvent the need for a complex
calculated-field solution?
