Um ... good point. Err... I know I had a good reason once ...
I guess this just carried over from a habit I developed when making component
footprints. Every time I draw a circle on a footprint, I always put some line
endpoint (on a mechanical or silkscreen layer) at the center of that circle.
Then ... there was some really good reason for that. Um ...
[Thinking fast, David quickly changes the subject]
Another enhancement:
Many people use a "courtyard" silkscreen that includes all necessary spacing
needed. It would be nice if there were a way to tell DRC that it's OK to allow
silkscreen to overlap (0 mil spacing from *centerline* of silkscreen, rather
than from outer edge of sikscreen).
In pictures, (crude ASCII art):
I have 2 parts that (when I specify 0 mil spacing) DRC currently allows me to
make the outer edge of the silkscreen touch:
+---+

+---+
+---+

+---+
I want DRC to approve when I make the *centerline* of the silkscreen touch:
+---+

+---+

+---+
(but, of course, I still want DRC to warn about any true overlaps of these 2
parts:
+---+

+---+

+---+

+---+
).
Talking about sikscreen,

In my current design flow, I make a printout on paper, with silkscreen and pads
and openings in the green soldermask printed as black, and I manually check all
the reference designators to make sure they are readable. It would be nice if
there were a design rule to automatically check this for me: White Silkscreen
ink can only be printed on top of green soldermask.
