Bill,
        within AutoCAD (or LT) you would have to do such complex shapes as
splines and fit them to your shape. Yes there is no spiral function in
itself.
        The manner in which you did it in Protel, does it not have
disjointed points where your varying sized segments meet? Possibly you could
send me the structure just so that I could see what you have done. Sounds
like you may have accomplished something that I would have thought
impossible. If you have accomplished a small miracle, possibly you could
share it just in case our Engineers ever try to up the anti on me.
