The features look useful, in my opinion; I'll try building your branch and playing with them personally to see about all those usage messages and the like! The empty dirs one is a bit of a hack, though; would it be a good idea to merge in everything *but that* for now? Indeed, does it need to be part of Fossil - one could just have an empty-dirs file and a script you run after checkout (dare I say "hook"? Nah, best not...) that ensures they all exist?
