As noted by others, "EDT" is "Eastern Daylight Time", which is what should be showing during DST in the Eastern (US) time zone. When it's not DST, what should be showing in the Eastern time zone is "EST" instead. From what you said, though, it seems you had set it to "EDT" when it was not yet daylight saving time.
