Please don't cry :) I'll see about a more detailed response tonight. Quick responses: > I've looked through http://svn.gna.org/viewcvs/freeciv/branches/S2_3/ > but can't find a freeciv.pot on it. If someone points me to it You won't find freeciv.pot in svn; it's generated from the source code by the build process. However, to save translators having to be able to navigate our build process, Marko maintains a reasonably fresh copy at <http://cazfi.net/freeciv/translations/S2_3/freeciv.pot>. So that's what you'd merge with. > and if I merge that with what I have done between two days ago and > today with that, will that work? Or is anything I did between then and > now worthless? It should Just Work, and your work in the meantime shouldn't be wasted. Chances are that the vast majority of the strings you've translated are in S2_3; I don't think there are _that_ many new strings on trunk. Worst case, you've translated a few strings that are only in trunk. When you merge back to S2_3, these will be moved to the bottom of your po-file in #~ comments; but they won't be discarded. If you're lucky, when the translation is eventually merged back to trunk in N months in the run-up to 2.4.0, the msgids will be unchanged, and these "dormant" translations in your po-file will be pulled out without any effort from you. If the msgids are changed, you would have had work to do anyway. However, it's entirely up to you whether you work on S2_3; you can work on trunk if you want. I just think the experience of bringing up a new localisation will be more pleasant on S2_3, because there'll be less gratuitous string churn from developers like me. >> BTW, if you have GNU gettext installed, [...] > Not at the moment. OK, we can do the merge for you. > Speaking of user friendly, is there any way of ordering those > placeholders? Sometimes you get strings like "blabla %s blabla %s %s" > which in English works in that order but in Gaelic (and I suspect some > other languages) it would rather be "blabla %s3 blabla %s1 %s2" Yes: the syntax is "blabla %3$s blabla %1$s %2$s". See <http://freeciv.wikia.com/wiki/Localization#How_to_change_the_order_of_arguments> >> gd.po:6: invalid plural expression > I can't find that. OK, I'll see if I can work out some more detailed explanation of what it's moaning about. _______________________________________________ Freeciv-i18n mailing list [email protected] https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-i18n
