Well I mean sure you can download software and all the drivers u want and
set up environments which for some people is fun but if you don't have the
time or can't be bothered setting up an ide and drivers an oobe distro
takes that hassle away and can make things smoother. I'd develop more is it
was ready to rock and roll.

Oobe includes:
Automated driver detection
Ide/dev kit
Gui environment (or choice)
Native smb/nfs or other network enhancements

You know why Linux kicks butt.. ?
Because it's ready to rock out of the box .
