People forget that it's possible for a program to be "mature" to the point that, at most, all it might need is the occasional bugfix.  Not every program needs to be under constant maintenance.

In this case it's also that the programming interface is pretty basic and set in stone. There is no constant code churn that could change something a driver depends on and make it fail. In Linux/BSD you can have very mature drivers too. But since they are constantly changing things in the kernel, there is a need for regular maintenance to adapt the code to underlying changes.
