It compiles and runs ok on 2.0.36 under VMWare for NT:

$ ./user
calling ioctl(2)

tearing down VM
$

At least I presume that's what's supposed to happen.  It didn't crash
it.

I think that in this phase of actually getting something working at
all, it makes more sense to just use dates for the snapshots.  When
there's something to be released to non-developers, that's when we
want version numbers.
