I installed from the SourceForge tarball. And this is a bug in that tarball, believe it or not. The bug is in the program_display.py module, which I have fixed. This whole mess is quite probably due to a Debian-specific quirk or a small bug in Python itself. Python is 2.4.4.
The basic.fxd skin file was installed by the setup script. It had to be because every skin is based on it AND all previous versions of Freevo had been purged (MANUALLY DELETED or UNINSTALLED via DPKG) prior to attempting to install the 1.7.3 code base. Now working on adjusting Panorama skin from 4:3 to 16:9.
