Thought that it would be a good idea to drop this into the list,
gst-python could provide the holy grail of freevo playback, instead of
using mplayer/xine/tv-time etc... gstreamer will provide a framework and
python bindings for playing pretty much any video format, this includes
new support for dvd nav as one example.

Imagine this, using gst-python we could have picture in picture, time
shifting thumbnail/miniview video while browsing freevo, we could
also /EASILY/ have cd/dvd ripping audio/video conversion. It would be
pretty cool for instance to have an encoding server which works well,
will recode/rip audio/video from a list interface, where items can be
added into the list for recoding, and is written wholly in python.

One big advantage of using gst-python over xine/mplayer is that there is
no need for an application wrapper to play media, as there are already
python bindings to gstreamer. Another advantage would be easier support
of freevo, breaking any playback problems down to a single common
denominator. Yet another advantage is that gstreamer has financial
backing on a fairly large scale.

Any thoughts?

Karl,
