All this genetics scares the s**t out of me, we barely have enough space in
the world for the population at the moment, especially at the rate the
population is growing. Soon most countries will have 'one baby per family'
rubbish going on.
That would upset alot of 16 year old girls in Bracknell ;)

Thanks for the link Martian - its facinating stuff. I saw it on the BBC's
site also. Genetics is moving along at an incredible pace. I reckon within
the next 10 or 20 years they will be able to stop (or at least radically
slow down) aging. The Immortal, superintelligent man may be just round the
corner.
Have you noticed though how most the comments they make about this are
things like it may help people with disfunctional memory, or some other
mental disease. Not it could make ordinary people more intelligent. This is
indicative of the whole paradigm the medical world is operating under and
also the way most people think about these things as a consequence. For
example in America the only way the FDA can license a drug is IF it treats a
disease. This means that if someone found a drug which increased your IQ by
25 points and made you live 20 years longer it would be given approval by
the FDA (unless of course it treated some disease as a side effect, but then
of course the doctor would only give it to you if you had that disease). Is
this MADNESS or what?
I'm all for creating a better man through science. We are at a magic time
when we can start to take our evolution into our own hands and the world
governments seems to have their heads up their ass.
I'd be interested to hear some other views from people on this list on this
issue. Anyone??
