Hi Neil,
I enjoyed your comments. I have some comments.
> Humans are meant to be the most intelligent animals on the planet,
> Yet we are the most destructive, We are meant to be at the top of the food
> chain, No predators
We may well be the most intelligent on the planet. In the universe for all I
know, but the fact we have war, famine, potential population boom, etc etc
and for the most part people are living miserable lives full of fear,
repression etc says to me we are NOT intelligent enough and at our current
levels of intelligence we are gonna kill ourselves.
I would like to clarify what intelligence means to me - as well as the
ability to have greater cognitive abilities - it also includes awareness,
perception and understanding.
> Genetics is our way of improving ourselves, We are already Perfect, there
is
> a reason we are the
> Way we are. We would be a lot better off accepting this and then trying to
> improve our quality of life
> And the lives of those around us.
Ummm - this is a tricky one. In one sense we are perfect, you are right.
However so were the one-celled creatures that were living in the primordial
soup 'perfect'. We are an evolving process. We also a point where we can
start to direct and possibly accelerate that evolution. In order for us to
be able to improve our quality of life and that of those around us we need
more awareness. Anything that can aid us to increase this I am all for. Be
it meditation, neurotechnologies, genetics, drugs, whatever. We need to move
fast. People are not, from what I see, just gonna suddenly see their inate
perfection and start living harmoniously. Technologies, such as genetics,
offer a possibility for creating a more intelligent human being who is
capable of living more harmoniously. Extended lifespan would make people
think a little more about the mess they are creating now - cause its gonna
be them that has to live with the consequences.
> That will lead to even more destructive technologies, beacause the Animal
> aspect of Man has been abused.
> What other animals are as destructive as we are for its own sake.
> Do you think that lesser animals also wish for greater things, no they
> ACCEPT what they have and make the most of it,
I disagree. We are not a lesser animal anymore - blissfully accepting what
we are without question. We evolved this ability to self-reflect, to
manipulate time, to compare, to judge etc etc. We cannot go back to the
stage in evolution we were at before this. We can only move forward. To get
to the stage where we can be in the here and now, accepting the way it is
with AWARENESS (which the animals do not have) requires all the help we can
get.
> Why can we not accept ourselves and our environment the way it is, and
learn
> to live in tune with it and each other.
Bloody good question!! Searching for the answer to this one has led me to
some strange places.
> To be honest I feel the reason is Fear, people are afraid to let go.
I agree.
Good hearing from you Neil.
