That's true, but another fundamental feature of metaphors is the insight they provide by understanding one thing in terms of another. I think it is this double aspect of metaphors which is partly responsible for the puzzling feeling caused by self-consciousness.

I am puzzled about all statements being metaphors. To me one feature about metaphors is that we must tolerate inconsistencies.
