Barry, My middle name is Carroll. My great great-grandfather Michael Carroll was born in Ireland but spent most of his life in New Orleans, I believe. I had a third cousin named Barbara Carroll Volz (she died) who developed an extensive family tree. I will see if there is any information about whether the two Seans are related. Note that the physicist is Sean Michael Carroll.
