The lcd patches repo is ready for initial inspection. This implements the
LCD patches from ubuntu in libxft and cairo. On my end, it noticeably
improves font legibility, because I am using a HDMI video connection to my
LCD monitor. It was not an issue when I was using VGA, but it is now.

Anyway, I have patched libxft and cairo. There were no patches we needed
for freetype, but I did version bump it. fontconfig also has patches, but
none of them appear to be necessary. They only provided font rules,
really.

Here is a sample of my testing of the old lcd filter vs the new lcd filter:

I have only been able to get the new filter to activate by providing a
manual configuration through .Xdefaults. I shall provide this as well, in
the event you wish to test it yourself. The only thing I can think of that
is left to do is to determine how to implement this on the UI end so that
GNOME, KDE, XFCE can potentially use the new filter.

As a side note, the patches permit the configuration to change between the
old and the new lcd filters.

Here is my .Xdefaults for my test:

If you want to test the old filter, simply change the lcddefault on the
lcdfilter line to lcdlegacy.

That is it for my initial report. Thanks for reading. Thoughts?
