I just want you to give a try contacting upstream and get an answer from them before we go patching our packages silently. It should not take years as the patch is already there. Imagine that in case every distro sends a "please apply this patch" mail to the upstream list, they'll consider the patch or at least will set the priority of this task to a higher value. :) Thanks.
