I'd go for PHP as well.

LAMP = Linux, Apache, mySQL, PHP

I'm working on a game site for Ubisoft (a huge game company) done in CF but overall
they are pushing for 100% PHP for all future sites,
tied into a mySQL backend.

The idea of a totally 'free' development package (minus the
hardware)really appeals to me and I imagine if I put a $0 price tag on a project
proposal for software, etc - it would appeal to clients as well :)

My home Linux box is soon going to start serving double duty as a mp3 box
and PHP development server :)
