FWIW, I have to agree, Steve. We've all grown far too accustomed to having a wealth
of stuff given to us free of
charge. It's too bad, because it means a lot of good stuff will be set aside in favor
of projects that pay. I know my
own progress on projects like Harness and Fuseminder have been back-burnered because I
have to feed the family.
Sharing ideas is one thing, but expecting publications and training and software free
of charge has gotten completely
out of hand.

I'm sorry if anyone takes offense, but the expectation that someone who gives you
something for free should be under
some onus to deliver it in the form you prefer so that you can consume it in a manner
more suited to your own
desires, with no consideration in return, is utterly preposterous. I can just imagine
someone saying, "Mr. Forta, I love
your 'Learn SQL in 21 Days' book, but I'd like mine in hardcover because it would lay
open on my desk nicer than the
paperback. Oh, and would you please deliver it to my door at no cost to me? Thanks.
And have Jeremy throw in a
copy of CFMX Enterprise for Solaris while you're at it."

My 2 percent,
(an overestimated comparison of my contributions to Hal's)
