Running R65 you can in fact still have ER running on the same machine as the
SmartCenter. I did it that way for one of my customers and works fine.

The only difference on R65 seems to be that it used to be possible to just
remove ER from a machine running both (SMC and ER), but on R65 I tried it
with the old command I had (and worked for older versions including R62) and
could not do it. I asked Check Point about it and was told it is no longer
possible "because of the way both get integrated when installed together".

That argument did not sound right to me, I would say most likely there must
be another way to do it, but hey, who am I to tell CP guys they must be
wrong to their faces....

Regards

It sounds like you had ER R62 running on your SmartCenter. I don't know if
that is or is not permittedi n R65, but I always had my SR/ER server
separate. You don't need to install SmartCenter, just ER. Yes, you then
connect to the ER box directly. That's how I had it set up with ER 62 & 63
while using an R62 SmartCenter.
