I will also agree that you should take this to a lab and read the book. The Provider-1 is just like your management server but it has what is known as CMA's these will be what you smartcenter use to be.
You will sinc up just like before in smartdashboard You will need to migrate you rules and this is where you should setup a lab and practice this all the book reading and people trying to tell you what to do will not get this done. You must do this on your own in a lab to get it right. Yes there is a way to backup and you can also build a backup provider-1.
