Nah, no need to cause grief. Just change to a DSL provider. I bet
once they see their customer based shrinking, they might reverse the
decision. Currently, all cable providers are trying real hard to make
their projections. They had to expand quite a bit due to the huge
success in the beginning, which cut in their margins. Now they are
scrambling, on top of the competition of (A)DSL providers (just mho).
It's funny, though. How do they decide what constitutes a VPN? If
they mean IPSec, fine. Let them filter it and I switch to PPTP. If
they filter that, I switch to VTCP. There are several VPN
implementations running on different protocols/ports. Are they
watching for all of them?
Someone mentioned that they might be under pressure from the Feds
(Carnivore and such). So are the ISP's gonna ban PGP next? I think
the reason they want to clamp down on VPN's is the traffic volume it
generates, which is most of the time more business related than
personal.
