Yes, they do have such a lag. So do cheap P&S 35 mm cameras. On mine it gets worse as the batteries lose charge. Part of the lag time, (at least on my Epson) is a user-selectable 'Quick Review' mode that lets you decide to keep or discard the picture. Part is actually processing and storing the image data. I don't remember how long it takes on my camera...I'll time it. It is annoying sometimes.
