You might want to go to the apple support forums and tell the many users that have posted about their scratches that they can easily buff out marks. :-) Seriously, most have tried. I think it has something to do with the disintegrating screen rubber stoppers etc.... and the tight tolerances. Let's not get into the bad paint issue which is certainly real as well.
