Regrettably, right after starting this thread, I found my new 'book 
unwilling to accept CD's or DVD's. Once, a PRAM reset (!) fixed the 
trouble but I sent it back on Friday. Rep said they'd had lots of 
alignment trouble with the RevA slot-loader, but that my problem was the 
first that he knew of for the D.

PS: Thanks to all who contributed background / solutions for screen 
scuffs. I'm much more comfortable that I'll be3 able to keep the book in 
nice shape, which seems to withstand less abuse than my venerable 2400 
(still) gets.
