Regrettably, right after starting this thread, I found my new 'book unwilling to accept CD's or DVD's. Once, a PRAM reset (!) fixed the trouble but I sent it back on Friday. Rep said they'd had lots of alignment trouble with the RevA slot-loader, but that my problem was the first that he knew of for the D. PS: Thanks to all who contributed background / solutions for screen scuffs.
