Liability. :)

Corporate legal: If you screw up, and admit it, you are liable and people
can come after you. They can still come after you if you don't admit it, but
it is a lot harder (and more expensive for them) which is a deterrent.

Many have cured the problem simply by removing apple's little "feet" (or
having them rub off) and putting some thicker ones on the display.

Some would even say that at this point apple doing that for this model would
be somewhat tantamount to an admission of a problem, so they'll probably
just take it into better account for the next full model change, and the
users who bought one now will just have to deal. :/
