I just bought a new iBook 3 weeks ago -- my first experience with both a laptop and OSX and I love both!

As someone who has been using Apple laptops since 1995 I can easily state that I still share your enthusiasm. Congrats!

Anyway, I was wondering about some general maintenance stuff:

1. What do you clean the screen with?

The best stuff, by far, is put out by Klear Screen. (www.klearscreen.com) Their products do not use alcohol - which is terribly important - and are sold by Apple in the Apple stores. It's what we use here for our PowerBook users and I wholeheartedly recommend it.

You need to be extremely careful about what you use to clear and dry your LCD display. Repeated use of alcohol-based products will, over time, prematurely age your screen and cause discoloration and cracking. Make sure to get a lint-free non-scratching polishing cloth. A chamois is great but I use the Laptop ScreensaverZ from Radtech (www.radtech.us). This nice piece of cloth serves a double duty: I can clean my screen safely with it and it covers my keyboard when my PowerBook is closed, preventing keymarks on the screen. The keyboard can actually come in contact with the screen when it's closed and the oil and dirt from my grubby fingers would necessitate my cleaning the screen more often.

2. I'm normally working someplace where I can use the power adapter. Is this OK, or does the battery need to be used occasionally and then recharged? If yes, how often and how low should the charge go before I recharge?

Someone else may correct me, but AFAIK, there is no "memory" associated with the batteries Apple uses in the iBook and PowerBook. You can either leave the computer plugged in or not; I've run my battery down multiple times and have not yet noticed any dropoff in available charge. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I wouldn't worry too much about it.
