Hi John, thanks for the reply.  So the first router in your network is 
passing out the IP addresses?  I would think the hub can be exchanged 
for a switch, just a smart hub, after all.  and the Airport is just for 
wireless connections.  My main question is there a device that combines 
the cable modem and the router into one device?.....from my research, I 
don't think there is.
