No problem.

There is no point buying Extreme station unless you:

1. plan to upgrade to 802.11g (extreme) in the future
2. plan to purchase the new Airport Express (I have done that and now I'm purchasing Extreme base station to integrate the Airport Express to my network - does not work as well with 802.11b)

I have been using 802.11b for a long time (in a week I'll have an extra base station and wireless router from Linksys - any takers?) and did not have any problems or performance issues even while playing games online, downloading large updates from Apple or doing regular work with e-mail and web browsing.

Another consideration is that the 802.11b equipment is very cheap now. So you need to make a choice based on your future needs. Hope this helps a bit.
