I have a Bronze G3 powerbook, with OS 9.1, do I need to install any virus protection while surfing the net. I heard Apple designs were fairly resistant to most types of viruses.

1) There are no OS X viruses, so no you don't need anti virus

2) Some will tell you that you must have it because
a) you must protect your Windows-using friends from accidentally sending them a virus which would be nearly impossible to do, but some will say that you could unknowingly forward a virus to them. Yes, and you could accidentally shoot them with an Uzi, but I doubt that would happen either.

b) "Someday there will be an OS X virus" which is speculation, not fact. Unix has been around for a long time and so far no one has created a virus for it. Trojan horse, maybe, but no virus, at least none outside some "I'm here to show that it could happen" scenario

So it comes down to whether you want to be overly protected for a non-existent threat of accidentally forwarding a virus to a friend (I can't even imagine that someone takes this seriously) or be prepared in the very unlikely event someone does release a successful virus on OS X.

I say save your money.
