When you carry around a bag full of books everywhere, a 7 lb laptop isn't going to feel like much. In fact, when I do go around with only my laptop the bag feels as light as a feather.

Most people would. I prefer the 14" screen of my Pismo over the 12" screen
of my AlBook, but not enough to fuss with the extra size and weight. I used
to carry around 7lb full-sized laptops everywhere I went, and didn't know
how bad it was only because I didn't know that there was a better way. Even
my 12" PowerBook feels bulky now, though I suspect that the 3lb 11" screen
toshiba Portege I used to carry (still do when I want to go really light)
has a lot to do with that.

I know that if Apple ever came out with an updated PowerBook 2400c I'd rush
out and buy one. That is my dream machine, G4 at 1.5GHz (though a slower
chip would not bother me in the interest of reducing power comsuption and
heat), a 10.4 or 11.3" screen at 1024X768, though the current 12.1" would be
even better if they could reduce the size of the surrounding bezel.
Finally, leave the optical drive OUT OF THE CHASIS and make the whole thing
weigh 3lbs or less. I'd pay current 12" AlBook prices for such a machine,
and I'd wager a lot of other people would too (though probably very few on
this list).

My iBook G4 14" works wonders for me. I do almost all of my college
notes, projects, assignments, papers etc on it. Pretty much my whole
life is on it. On top of that, it goes just about everywhere with me,
and even though it's a 14" iBook, I have no problem at all toting it
around. It may have the same techinical "screen real estate" as it's
12" brother, but I still prefer the 14" screen.
