I agree with you about the practicality of the ports; I'm a Pismo owner, but recently borrowed a 15" PB for a couple of weeks while the pismo was being repaired. Of course the newer PB is a lovely machine in most respects, but those cables sticking out of the side, right where I wanted to put books and papers, really irritated me.
