A new iBook should have OS 9 installed. If not it's on your restore disks. Panther works fine with 9.1 if that's what you've got. Yes, you should be able to get it off the G4 disks using Pacifist.
There is no 9.x folder at all, I searched for it. If 9.1 will work, that is great, I know I have those in my piles o'cds!
