Well, I mentioned the RAM upgrade, but he wants to hold out. As far as system resources, everything looks normal. Nothing is really hogging the CPU or memory. I didn't even think of checking the permissions, because it never was an issue on my Linux boxes, or my Lombard, so I never thought about it.

It has about 27 GB free out of 37.3 GB total, while my Lombard, which is trouble-free has only 1.7 GB free out of 6 GB total. If this helps, most of what he does with it is photo storage and light editing in iPhoto.

Hopefully, we can come up with a fix,
Caleb

The amount of I/O you need to push to affect performance is really high when it comes to journalling. I doubt the mini is even able to do that much. To be honest I'd double the RAM in that at least, 256MB is a bit slim for OS X. Does the Activity Monitor show anything using lots of CPU or any system resources? How much disk is free as well? Also have you run a fix permissions on it since any updates? Incorrect permissions can cause weird slowdowns (I've had that happen to me).
