They both have ethernet connectors so you can just connect the G3 to the G4
with an ethernet cable and they should see each other when you establish a

No, the ethernet port in the PowerBook is auto-sense, meaning it automatically determines if it needs to adjust itself for cross-over mode.

But as we've just found out, it works via their home LAN's routerbox, so all's hunky-dunky :)
