The principal advantage is in the appearance of your table with the extra
cables and box.  We need to wonder why so many internal modems, presumably
well used, are for sale.  Many internal modems built-in by Apple were made
by Global Village.  Mine was ok until I upgraded from the internal 28K to an
external US Robotics 56K modem that my son gave me.  I used the empty slot
for an ethernet card.  Now, many any folks found the internal Global Village
items to be troublesome and the fax software less than useful.  If your
external modem works well, put your money on something else.
