Hi all; I'm fairly new to the list, and the recent discussions about
upgrading a 7600 and G4 processor upgrades for Blue and White G3's have
given me a couple of questions about my own recently-acquired Beige G3
333 Minitower:

1. I currently have an external 56k modem. I see many internal modems
for sale on eBay, etc, but some of them say for the B&W G3 only. Are
these compatible with the Beige G3s, or not? So far the only internal
modems I know for sure work with my computer are the ones designed for
the 6500, etc. (Comm Slot II?) Are there any others? And would there
be any advantages to having an internal VS an external?

2. I would like to replace the 24X CD-ROM with a DVD drive. Are there
any certain DVD drives that work better than others (or some that don't
work at all)? I have a 32 MB PCI Radeon video card installed; do I need
any other hardware (decoder card?) or will the DVD drive combined with
the Radeon be able to play DVD movies?

3. What processor upgrades are available to me that will allow me to run
future versions of OS X (IOW, don't require the firmware patches
recently discussed on the list)? Can I drop any G3 processor into my
Beige MT, or are there restrictions on that? Do all G4s require the
firmware patch for my computer?

Thanks in advance for any and all help you guys can give me. I
appreciate it!!!

Sincerely,
Mike Wallinga
