Sorry to come in so late on this discussion. Our #3 son had surgery on 
Monday, I had to work Tuesday (at the camera shop), and I'm only just now 
finding a few minutes to read email.

The listmom and nannies may declare a discussion closed. Any member of 
the list can request that a thread be ended, but compliance is merely a 
matter of courtesy.

I found much of the discussion enlightening, but then it seemed to settle 
into dogmatic positions that neither side is willing to change.

I leave my TiBook on, running SETI@home in spare cycles, sleeping (or so 
I believe) at night, etc. There are good reasons for using sleep and 
equally good ones for shutting down. This debate has been going on as 
long as there have been personal computers. Make your own choice.

Last word -- thread dead.
