It will recognise 768 max. no way around that.
Be carefull. Buy your stick's from dealers that specialise in the Mac.
Your Beige will only see most of the cheep pc 100 or 133 256MB stick's as
128MB. 
You could also buy one 512MB stick and use one of your 128MB to max your
RAM.
