I have a blue G3 with a G4/400 card in it (Newer Tech) and I want to replace the standard 32x CD-ROM drive with a CDRW drive. I need it to be able to boot from OS 9 and OS X CDs, work in OS 9 (just not crash on startup, as some do), and burn discs in OS X. It would also be nice if it was quiet and fast - a 24x or higher with a 40x read speed would be fine, but a faster burn would be nicer.
I've been to www.xlr8yourmac.com and looked at the drive compatibility reports, and so far the one that seems to have some nice positive feedback (works with pretty much everything in OS 9 and OS X) is the Sony CRX175A1 (not the A-A1 or the A1/C1 or anything, just plain A1). It's kinda difficult to search their site by compatibility, you pretty much have to go by model and look for the ones that are compatible. Also, not very many reviews were submitted with Jaguar, because it was released just a short time ago. So could anyone here who's added an IDE CDRW to their blue G3 tell me how theirs is working and which model they have? I'd really appreciate it. -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
