--- You wrote: Dumb question. What does VCD stand for? Video CD? if so, I want to burn a VCD to play back in my Sony DVD player that is attached to my TV. My version of Toast does not *seem* to have a VCD option and I am lost in the woods. Any help. --- end of quote --- You need the Titanium version of Toast, I think it is version 5. something. Toast converts several versions of Quicktime files, (iMovie will output directly into Titatnium) into mp1 video and multiplexes the sound and video, then puts it all in the VCD format which is burned into a normal CD.
Many current DVD players will play VCDs. You might want to check the docs for the player, though some may be able to even if it doesn't say so. VCD is an accepted commercial format in the Far East. You can get 74 minutes of video and sound on a cd. The quality is surprisingly good in my experience. The main problem is when the image changes quickly, as in a pan, the video breaks up since the compression can't keep up with it. A waving field of grass does the same thing. The audio is excellent. In some ways, VCDs are more convenient than the DVDs I am now burning with the current version iDVD. They will play from beginning to end, like an audio cd, without needing to select a track. But you can jump to a track almost instantly from the players remote. My first track is always a 25 second track index generated n a drawing program, so hit 1 and you get the index, hit 5 and you are in junior's bath, all very quick. (Apparently iDVD3, coming in a couple of weeks, will allow chapters, so you could do the same thing if you join all your short videos together first.) More than you needed to know, but I hope I answered your question. Rich -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
