I don't know about iTunes, but I record radio easily on this G4 733 (OS 9.2.2) by plugging an audio cord from my radio's headset jack into an iMic that's plugged into one of the Mac's USB ports. The software I use to record and save the music is Sound Studio, which can be downloaded from the Felt Tip Software website and used in demo form so you can see how it works. You can hear the sound while it's being recorded, in my case through external USB speakers.
What I do is find a radio station with music that I like and just go away and let the Mac record for an hour or so, then save it and use Sound Studio to snip out the individual songs, eliminate the commercials etc. I've captured hundreds of songs and other pieces of music this way and can make all sorts of custom music CDs with them. My only gripe is some DJs who have a habit of talking over the beginnings and endings of songs and ruin the recordings. Best to record late at night when these guys are absent or asleep at the switch. I got a lot of good Christmas music recently and burned it onto CDs.
