You can make an MP3 CD that holds over 10 hours of music. Playable on most computers, and my DVD player going to the stereo. There are many "Old Time Radio" sites with archives of stuff like Orson Welles' Mercury Theater of the Air (that took me a couple of weeks downloading on my 56k modem in the background).
