A floppy? Hmm the only thing a floppy is good for now a days is to get the photos from my Sony digital camera ( any software on floppy has been transferred to CD-R (an old version of filemaker pro). And since it was cheaper for me to buy a new usb/floppy than it was to replace my "many" dead apple floppies, I did the smart thing =) ..Ive had it for 2yrs now (works 9 or X) I asked all three of my PC roomies the last time they used their floppies, they couldnąt remember. But at least it was there to ADD cost to their machines when they bought it. ( 2 of the 3 said - whats firewire? - ya know, the thing thatąs been stock on Apples since the B&W, Apple-ya know the first co. to come up with scsi, usb, firewire, and/or cd-roms in their computers.) If people relied on the consistent stagnation of the PC design, there probably wouldnąt be CD-rom's in systems, they would probably be raid-ing an army of floppies, zip,or jaz's in there.) My only beefs with Apple is the loss of the ability to add a 2nd cd drive to anything B&W thru QS. And the loss of the audio input in the DA's thru QS's ( donąt have a DD so I donąt know about that one ) but in my opinion that is Apples' most asinine move to date. NO audio input from a FAMED AV computer company?? But just like every other "lost port" an adapter can be had for much less than what you would of had to pay if Apple put it there to begin with. (oh yeah almost forgot their POOR cooling techniques/designs in the newer models (not the G5 - I think they finally realized they had to put out something real instead of continuing trying to get the G4 design correct.. Having to do a user-end mod to get decent cooling just isnt right. ) btw - look for Moto to bring out G4 cpu upgrades in the not too distant future. Oh...and Im sure OSX was responsible for more than a few lost sales. I couldnąt duplicate the smoothness and responsiveness of XP on my roomates 500mhz pc box until I got an 800mhz cpu for my G4. The only thing it introduced to my stock iBook500 ( that was shipped with OSX ) was Apples' inability to have their computers run their own OS at anything close to an acceptable speed.... Pretty bad when a brand new computer is too slow for the OS that is shipped with it. I donąt even want to talk about Panther, the only reason Im using Jag is to run RC5 for the xlr8yourmac team, all my important apps and games are OS9 which is so zippy on a dual800 it makes my eyes bulge, its merely smooth (finally) in OSX. I have a couple friends here locally ( the ones that didnąt go PC after OSX a year or so back) that wont go anywhere near OSX on their QS's...just toooo sloooow ( they have them for production/work - not pretty flowers ). I seriously doubt ( hope Im wrong) that Panther is going to have any more consideration for slower G4's than Jag did, so I guess 10.2.6 is as good as we are going to get =(. Best thing Ive noticed about the G5's are that I just bought a DA for less than I paid for my used DP500 almost two years ago (and I got a screaming good deal on the dp).
